Straight into the set’s own browser
Open a URL, make it the homepage. No app store, no side-loading, no box.
The web player caches its content and plays offline exactly like the native one, and alerts arrive on the same clock. What it cannot do is start itself when the set is switched on, or cover another application — a browser tab has no such power on any platform.
For a set that shows nothing but signage, that is a fair trade and costs nothing. For a set that also runs something else, use an Android box.
Getting a screen running
- 1Open the player URL in the television’s browser
- 2Set it as the homepage so it returns after a power cycle
- 3Type the six-character code into the panel
What it cannot do
- Somebody has to open the browser after the set is switched off at the wall
- Cannot cover another application — nothing running in a browser can
At a glance
- Plays a scheduled loop
- Keeps playing while offline
- Starts by itself when the screen powers on
- Covers a different application
- Screen on and off from the panel
